Alfred V. Martini, of Easton, beloved husband of the late Virgilia (Uccello) Martini, entered into eternal rest on Palm Sunday, March 20, 2016.  Virgilia and Al had been married for 47 years when she passed away seven months ago.  Born in Bridgeport on April 20, 1931, the son of the late John and Vincenza (Cristiana) Martini, he was educated in Bridgeport public schools, graduating from Central High School in 1949.  He proudly served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  He then started his business career as a construction estimator and was a partner and then sole owner of M&M Estimating.  He was involved in many activities, won many trophies as a bowler, and was a loyal Yankees fan.  He was active in Republican politics, was on the Easton Republican Town Committee, and was acknowledged by the Connecticut State Legislature for his accomplishments.  A devoted communicant of Notre Dame of Easton, he served as a trustee of the church for many years.  Al and Virgilia were very active in the charismatic movement in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport and were leaders in the healing ministry.  Their home was open to all for countless prayer meetings and healing services.  In a quiet and unassuming way, they touched the lives of many.  Al is survived by his brother Leonard J. Martini of Fairfield, his niece, Susan M. Martini of Shelton, and his nephew, Michael J. Martini and his wife Mary (DiStasio) Martini and their son Zachary, all of Stratford.  He is also survived by many relatives in Mexico.  He leaves his beloved nephew, David J. Gustafson, who was like a son to him, and his wife Jacqueline (Bisson) Gustafson of West Hartford.  With great commitment, love and devotion, David took on the responsibility of overseeing Al’s care over the past nine years.  Also surviving Al are  his sisters-in-law, Antonina (Ann) Uccello, former Mayor of Hartford of West Hartford, Carmela (Uccello) Gustafson and her husband Russell of Avon, and Nellie (Uccello) Romaine of Wethersfield and his niece, Laura (Gustafson) Sweeney and her husband James, and their children, James and Alison, all of Simsbury.  He was predeceased by his sister, Felice Campos Salas and her husband Octaviano, of Mexico, sisters-in-law, Veronica (Battey) Martini of Fairfield and Vincenza A. Uccello of West Hartford and his brother-in-law, Stephen G. Romaine of Wethersfield.  The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Monica Perry for her loving care of both Virgilia and Al during the last four years they spent at home.  The family is also indebted to Ludlowe Health Center of Fairfield for their professional and compassionate care of both Virgilia and Al.  Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 28th from 12:00PM-1:00PM directly in Notre Dame Church, 655 Morehouse Road, Easton with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 1:00PM.  Interment will be held in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Notre Dame Church.
