Joseph C. DelPiano, 94, died on November 30, 2016 of a broken heart after his beloved wife of 70 years, Pia predeceased him just 4 months ago. Born in Waterbury, Giuseppe Cesare DelPiano, or Joey, as his grandchildren called him, joined the navy during WWII and served as a Machinist’s Mate third class in several places including Iwo Jima. He was Honorably discharged in May of 1946.  Joseph leaves behind his children Cheryl DelPiano-Kirk of West Haven, CT and Gary and Beth DelPiano of Orange, CT.  He also had 3 grandchildren, Daniel DelPiano of West Haven, Jeremy Kirk of West Haven, Christine DelPiano of Orange and one great-granddaughter, Callie Convery-Kirk. He was an avid supporter of his children, grandchildren and more recently he especially loved spending time with Callie.   Joe was an engineer for many years.  He started at Eldorado Tool in Milford CT then spent some years at Winchester Arms in New Haven, and AVCO-Lycoming in Stratford. In 1969 he became a Teacher at Bullard-Havens Vo-tech so he and his wife could travel with their motor home in the summer to see their grandson Jeremy and daughter in California. He at first taught Blueprint Reading then became the Department Head of the Machine Drafting Department; he retired from the Bullard in 1987.  We would like to thank all the people, friends, nurses, doctors, and especially his two caretakers, who helped make his life in the last few years more enjoyable. Thank you all so much for helping our Dad, Joey, and Grandpa have a better life these past years.  Friends and family are invited to greet the family on Wednesday, December 7th from 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm in The Gregory F Doyle Funeral Home, 291 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford.  Interment will be private.  To leave an online condolence, please visit, www.gregoryfdoylefuneralhome.com.  Joseph will be missed as much as he was loved. He has asked that in lieu of flowers friends donate to his beloved wife’s scholarship fund.
