Margaret (Gettens) Stach

September 19, 1915 ~ July 21, 2016 (age 100) 100 Years Old

Mrs. Margaret Rose Stach, age 100, of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Edward P. Stach, with her family at her side entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Lord Chamberlain Nursing Home.  She was born Margaret Gettens on September 20, 1915 to George and Lillian Flood Gettens in Mooers, New York.   She grew up with her late siblings, George Jr., Herbert, and Gladys Blanchette in Ashburnham, Massachusetts.   Margaret graduated from Fitchburg High School with the class of 1935 and then earned a 2 year diploma at the Gardner State Hospital School of Psychiatric Nursing, Gardner, Massachusetts.  She worked at the Gardner State Hospital as a Psychiatric Nurse for 3 years until her marriage on August 24, 1940 to Edward P. Stach.  They moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut where Edward was an Industrial Arts Teacher and Assistant Principal at Warren Harding High School.  Margaret was a devoted mother and homemaker to three children, Ronald Stach, retired from Central High Magnet School, Alan Stach, Viet Nam veteran, and retired City of Bridgeport Police Sargent, and David Stach, counselor at Multicultural Magnet School.  Margaret’s sons provided her with 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.  Margaret is survived by son Ronald Stach and his wife Renate, grandson Michael Stach and wife Anne and great granddaughter, Madeleine Stach, son Alan Stach and granddaughter Monica Stach and great grandson, Stacy, and great granddaughter, Aaliyah,  son David Stach and his wife Barbara  and granddaughter Julianne Stach and her fiancée Buddy Kaminski, granddaughter Ashley MacPherson and husband Ross and great grandson Austin MacPherson, granddaughter Kristin Stach, and granddaughter Karissa Shields and husband Tristan. Margaret’s family wishes to extend their most sincere gratitude and thanks to the staff of Lord Chamberlain Nursing Home of Stratford, CT for the outstanding care and compassion provided to both Margaret and her family throughout her stay. A Private Service will be held at Gregory F. Doyle Funeral Home, 291 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford for the family on Tuesday, July 26th after which the family will accompany Margaret to Taunton, Massachusetts where she will join her beloved husband, Edward Stach in the family plot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
