Leslie E. Rushworth, age 80, of Bethany, formerly of Milford, beloved husband of the late Jean Rushworth, died on Monday, July 15, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Les was born in Bridgeport on October 7, 1938 to the late Fred and Mildred Rushworth. Les was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran serving on the USS Independence and the USS Intrepid. He worked for various trucking firms, starting as a driver and retiring as a regional manager. Les was the owner of both the East Side Deli in Naugatuck and the Amity Superette. He was a member of the Bridgeport, New Haven and Waterbury Traffic Associations and President of the Terminal Managers Council of Connecticut. Les was a baseball coach in Milford for many years and retired from Honda of Watertown as a shuttle driver.
He was a devoted father of sons, Jeffrey L. of Waterbury and Leslie P. (Diana Serrini) of Bethany. He is also survived by his much loved grandchildren; Kara, Adam (fiancée, Monica) and Alex, Allison, Christian, and Michael W., daughter-in-law’s; Karen and Cindy, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Les is predeceased by his brothers; Fred, Robert, Roger and sister, Irene. Les was most proud of his marriage to his wife Jean for over 53 years.
Friends and family may call on Friday, July 19th from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm in The Gregory F. Doyle Funeral Home, 291 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford.
