Mavis Vanatte Russell Hanning, age 90, of Naugatuck, passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on December 8, 1927 and was the daughter of Earl and Fannie Russell. Mavis was the strongest woman you could have ever met. She was larger than life itself. Mavis always found the good in everyone she met. To Mavis there was nothing more important than her family, they were her everything. Mavis, enjoyed spending as time as she could with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved playing basketball, kickball and pitching the baseball to her great grandson. She never missed a sporting event that her great grandson played. While she was living in Waterville, Maine she went dancing at the Blue Goose with her sister, Louise. Upon moving to Ansonia, CT in the early 80’s, Mavis met a very special man, they were together for several years before his passing. She enjoyed playing cards, singing, dancing, spending time with her friends, going to the casino and watching the Price Right. Mavis loved all animals. Over the years she had been given several nicknames from Ma, Gram, Gramma GG, Grandma Dynamite.
Mavis is survived by her devoted daughter, Joyce Hanning Bolduc (Leo) of Naugatuck and her sons, Raymond Hanning (Sula) of Manhattan, KA, and Jerry Hanning of Albion, Maine, grandchildren Rhonda Hanning Peters (Lance),Vicky Lynn Hanning Wooten (Christian)and Stavros Raymond Hanning (Sarah), three great grandchildren, Lance Christopher Peters, Eleni Raye Goodale and Maddox Hanning and three great great grandchildren, Camden, Connor and McKenna Goodale and her sister, Marguerite Russell Larrabe of Knox, Maine. She was predeceased by her longtime companion, Charles Grinsted and her siblings, Albert Russell, Samuel Russell, Bertha Russell Hunter, Louise Russell Green and Hattie Russell Newell.
