Nancy Verrilli Doering passed away peacefully at Connecticut Hospice in Milford on October 10,2017. Nancy was born on November 21, 1934 and grew up in Bridgeport as the third of three daughters born to Italian immigrants. She was the daughter of the late Nancy (Salerno) and Daniel Verrilli and the sister of the late Theresa Sinanis and Florence McHugh. She graduated from Central High School in 1952 and later attended the University of Bridgeport. Affectionately known as "Honey," she married the late Dr. Robert W. Doering in 1968. They shared 31 wonderful years together, residing in Southport, CT. and spending winters in Palm Desert, California.
Nancy was employed for many years in her husband's practice as a book keeper and medical record specialist. In the years following his passing, she enjoyed working at Julia's Bakery in Orange.
Throughout her life, she was a member of several religious congregations including St. Augustine, St. Pius, St. Ann's and Christ the Redeemer Church. Additionally, she was an active volunteer in various organizations including Milford Hospital, the Easter Seals Association, and worked with her husband and a support team providing assistance to survivors of cancer.
Effervescent, kind, engaging, and generous are words that describe Nancy's personality. She enjoyed hosting a party and was a wonderful cook and conversationalist, adding a spark to any occasion, whether it was a back yard barbecue or a holiday party. Spending time with family and her many life long friends provided a great source of joy for Nancy.
In later years, she resided for over two years at Maplewood Assisted Living in Orange. She was a special favorite of the staff and residents there where she enjoyed the many activities and entertainment that they provided, She leaves behind a step-daughter, husband and two sons of California, three nieces: Jeanne McHugh,Eileen McHugh, and Barbara Ceneri, a nephew, JD Sinanis, and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Friends are invited to greet the family on Tuesday, October 17th from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm in The Gregory F. Doyle Funeral Home, 291 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 18 at 10:30 am in St Ann Church, Naugatuck Ave. Milford.
