Amelia "Nellie" (Mendez) Santos Cangiarella

Amelia “Nellie” Mendez Cangiarella, age 91, of Stratford left to be with the Lord surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, August 20, 2023.  Amelia was born in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Anna and Miguel Mendez and resided in Stratford, CT, for the past 21 years. 

She worked at Brooks Brothers, NY as a Customer Service Administrator for many years.  She was an exceptional seamstress all her life, always making many gifts for others.  She enjoyed cooking, knitting and crocheting for family and friends.  She was always excited for the next family birth to make them a special gift.  Most of all, she devoted her life to her four children and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her devoted children JoAnn Morales and husband Luis of Ansonia, CT, Annette Henriques of Ansonia, CT, Janette Mingrone and husband Paul of Stratford, CT, and Michael Santos of Queens, NY, her sister Georgie Mendez of N.J., and brother Michael Mendez of Nebraska, six grandchildren, Thomas Mikan, Luis Morales, Mattia Mikan, Tasia Mikan Penaranda, Robert Cestero and Michael Santos, eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and a special friend Diana Morales.  Amelia is predeceased by her husband Alphonse Cangiarella, her four brothers Willie, Philip, Angelo, and Sal and two sisters Eleanor and Anita and daughter-in-law Maria Santos.

Friends may call Friday, August 25, 2023 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Gregory F. Doyle Funeral Home, 291 Bridgeport Avenue in Milford, CT.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. (DIRECTLY) at St James Church, 2110 Main St, Stratford, CT. 

Interment will follow in Kings Highway Cemetery, 271 Cherry St, Milford, CT.
