Angelo Borreggine Obituary

Angelo Borreggine (81), of Port St. Lucie, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. The son of Angela Verna and Antonio Borreggine, Angelo was born in Casamassima, Bari, Italy in 1937 and immigrated to the U.S. in 1956. A longtime resident of Syracuse, NY, Angelo met and married Frances Medico in 1962. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years. He was most proud of raising three accomplished and independent daughters, who were shaped by his unconditional love and limitless commitment to family: Angela Borreggine (David Cheung) of Brooklyn, NY, Grace Niland (Jeffrey) of West Hartford, CT and Jennifer Borreggine (Gabriele Agnello) of Orange, CT. He was devoted to his seven grandchildren who are his great legacy. He loved, nurtured and inspired them: Jonathan Cheung, Madeline and Caroline Niland, Dante, Nicolas, Grace and Gabriela Agnello. He is also survived by three sisters, Giulia DeTomasso, Cecilia Caruso and Maria Capozza, beloved cousins, and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbors and friends in Syracuse, NY, Port St. Lucie, FL, Brooklyn, NY and Beachside Village in East Haven, CT.

Angelo worked at Syracuse China during his first years in Syracuse, then joined Chrysler New Process Gear where he worked for 40 years before retiring in 2004. He was proud of his Italian heritage and a longtime member of the Progresso Lodge Sons of Italy, a community that celebrated the Italian culture through food, music, athletics, educational programs and community service.

In addition to his devotion to family, Angelo loved basketball, soccer, gardening and lending a helping hand to family, friends and neighbors. An avid bike rider, he spent countless hours on the bike trails in Cape Cod and in Port St. Lucie. He especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren, spending time at the beach, playing cards, teaching them to garden, cheering them on in their sports games, attending numerous music and dance recitals, and inspiring them to achieve their highest potential. He was always available to hear their stories and marvel at all of their accomplishments, big and small. He was a role model to all who knew him. His work ethic was unparalleled, and he approached every aspect of his life with humility, dignity, grace, loyalty and commitment.
