Barbara Behn Piper, age 94, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Robert A. Piper, died peacefully on Thursday, January 21, 2021. Barbara was born in Bridgeport on June 20, 1926 to the late Harold and Ursula Elsenboss Behn. She graduated from Bassick High School in Bridgeport, married and raised her family at Thrushwood Lake in Nichols, and moved to Milford in 1981.
Barbara was an active member of the Stratford United Methodist Church, member of the UMW, and worked as a Sunday school and church secretary for many years and also was a proprietor of Franko’s Spirit Shop in Devon. She was an avid reader, lobster eater, YMCA water aerobics participant, word searcher, league bowler, and card player—forever demonstrating her competitive spirit; from Uno to Hearts to Pinochle—she always played to WIN! She also loved attending live sporting events including her daughters’ various games and swim meets and later her grandchildren’s games and band competitions. She was always there, sitting on the sidelines, silently rooting them on. She also followed CCSU and UCONN Women’s Basketball games.
More than anything, Barbara loved her family. Survivors include her five devoted daughters: Bonnie Peloso (Bob) of Milford, Beverly Boehmke of Trumbull, Barbara Hobson (Joseph) of Milford, Beryl Piper (Ron Pringle) of Burlington, and Brenda Boyd (Tyrone) of Milford; six grandchildren: Brian Peloso (Keri), Stephen Boehmke (Nicholas Koster), Emily Harwell (Jeff), Kristen Peloso (fiancé Steven Hudak), Calvin and Nolan Boyd; two great-grandsons, Nathan Harwell and Leo Peloso. Barbara is pre-deceased by her sister, Dorothy Pratt; daughter, Beth Amato; and son-in-law, Paul Boehmke.
Memorial donations may be made in Barbara’s name to Stratford United Methodist Church, 2600 Main Street, Stratford, CT 06615.
A private memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Stratford United Methodist Church due to Covid-19 capacity restrictions.
