Elvira C. (Costa) Prokoski

Elvira C. Prokoski, age 105, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Raymond J. Prokoski, entered into eternal rest on March 16, 2023.

"Ellie" was the daughter of the late Urbano Freitas Costa and Escolastica (Raposa Corderio) Costa and was born on June 17, 1917, in New Bedford, MA. She was the salutatorian of Lawrence High School (Class of 1936) in Falmouth, MA. During her working career, she was a recreational leader for the Works Progress Administration and a social worker for Old Age Assistance Services in Falmouth; a secretary and medical assistant for Dr. Samuel Janet, secretary for Bogdan & Powers, and answered phones for Gregory Answering Service/NESS Security, all in Milford; and a secretary for Attorney Robert R. Goldberger in Bridgeport. She was a former secretary of Engine Company 3 Ladies' Auxiliary and Walnut Beach Association. As a communicant of St. Gabriel Church, she was a former Eucharistic minister, member of the Rosary Society, and participant in variety shows. She was also a former member of the Red Hat Society and the West Haven German Club. Known for her snazzy outfits, some of them hand-sewn, Ellie enjoyed tap dancing and singing, and will also be remembered for her beautiful penmanship.

She is survived by her son, Raymond M. Prokoski, of Branford; devoted daughters, Rosanne Margeson (Robert) and Ramona Prokoski, both of Milford; her grandson, Justin Margeson; her son-in-law, David Machernis; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Regina Prokoski Machernis, and three sisters, Caroline Costa, Virginia Ramos, and Emily Furtado.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday, March 21, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the GREGORY F. DOYLE FUNERAL HOME, 291 BRIDGEPORT AVENUE, MILFORD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 22, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Church (St. Raphael Parish), 501 Naugatuck Avenue, Milford.
