He was a Royal Navy pilot who was based on aircraft carriers off the coasts of Africa, Malta and India, and fought in WWII . They moved their young family to the United States in July of 1963 where Leonard worked as a gas turbine design engineer at Avco, and Freda taught in special education at Seabreeze Milford Elementary School. She is predeceased by her devoted husband Leonard of 70 years, and by her son Clive I'Anson, also a Royal Navy pilot in the UK who died in service at the age of 24. As a mother Freda devoted herself to the nurturing of her two children as well as to the compassionate care of many others in her community. She had a wonderful sense of adventure and was a loving companion to her husband whom she enthusiastically joined on many sailing expeditions including on the Irish Sea, Lake St Louis Montreal, Long Island Sound, and on many an open ocean voyage in the Bahamas. Summers were spent on sailing trips to Martha’s Vineyard, and Block Island with her family and close friends. Freda was also a homemaker who loved baking bread, and was a notably talented knitter who crafted intricate Nordic fairisle sweaters for her loved ones. Freda dearly loved her dogs Major, Max, Carli, Mackenzie and Archie and enjoyed walking them frequently. Even in her latter years, Freda could be seen out and about in her wheelchair enjoying the fresh air and beautiful waterfront views near her home in Morningside. She will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul who gave generously of her time and effort to others.
