Frederick L. Wallace, 78, of New Haven, CT, passed away at his home on August 6, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his loved ones. Fred was born on July 26, 1942 in New Haven CT to the late Lee J and Sally Karcheski Wallace. Fred received his Ph.D. in Political Science from UCONN while being an active leader of the student movement of the 1960’s and 70’s. Fred dedicated his working career in service to others. After teaching for a short time he focused on the administration of affordable housing programs as the executive director of the Willimantic, Milford and New London Housing Authorities. After his retirement, Fred continued his passion for showing the greatness in people by teaching and sharing his spirit and love for life through the Co-Counseling Community around the world, including New Zealand, the Netherlands, and the U.K. where he leaves behind many cherished friends. Fred also expressed his artistry and creativity with his “photages”, pieces of art created with multiple pictures of the same subject put together as a deconstructed image. His home is filled with these pieces, representing places and people that he loved. Recently he was thrilled to have his “face poems” which are expressions of emotions and moments with art work and short poems displayed at the New Haven Library and published as a book on amazon. His greatest goal was to have his book about the May Day demonstrations in Washington DC published, which many of his circle of friends with continue to achieve for him. He is survived by his daughter Kate and husband Joey Barbera, his cherished grandson Max and his beloved and devoted partner, companion and caregiver Chris Sanders. He is also survived by his Brother Lee J Wallace, His Brother and Sister-In-Law Ron and Mary Ann Wallace and His Sister and Brother-In-Law Suzanne Wallace and Allen Hale as well as many nieces and nephews and countless friends who never forgot him during his long illness. The family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Smilow Cancer Center for their committed and compassionate care and for always trying to provide hope.
