George Guard Jr. Obituary

George Daniel Guard Jr., age 88, of Bethany, beloved husband of the late Marie Gentile Guard, died on Monday, April 27, 2020.  George was born in Dickson City, PA on June 10, 1931 to the late George Daniel Guard Sr. and Adeline James Guard.  He was a proud veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean War, where he earned the National Defense Service and Good Conduct Medals.  He worked for William B. Meyer Trucking in Stratford for over 30 years where he fulfilled his passion for driving trucks.

George was a uniquely kind and loving man.  He worshipped his family and adored his friends.  He never met a person he didn’t like. “King George,” as he was affectionately (and perhaps infamously) referred to by his regular visitors at Dunkin Donuts of Devon, was known to strike up an engaging conversation with people from all walks of life.

Survivors include his children: Dawn Sardi (Stephen) of Bethany and Deborah Green (Richard) of NC; his grandchildren: Dr. Lauren Sardi (Todd Ames), Matthew Sardi, and Dr. Justin Sardi, all of Bethany; and Kyleigh, Jarrett, and Richard Green, all of NC; his great-grandchildren: Logan and Sydney Ames of Bethany; his brother Allen Guard of SC, his cousin Shirley Passaro of Trumbull, his niece Constance Richards of PA, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.  George is predeceased by his brothers: John, William, Arthur, Donald, and Harold Walters and Kenneth Guard.

The family wishes to thank everyone at Cheshire House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Waterbury for their kindness and devotion to George.  A private interment will be held in the State Veterans Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to covid19responsefund.org.
