Helmut George Zimmermann passed away on April 27, 2022 at Jupiter Medical Center, Trustbridge Hospice, with his loving family by his side. Born June 13, 1934 in Hobbach, Germany to the late Heinrich and Josefine Herold-Zimmermann. He completed his education in Germany and was a skilled, licensed Volkswagen mechanic. At the young age of 21 he sailed to the United States in June of 1955, in search of the "American Dream", where the love of his life, Sieglinde Englert from Germany was waiting and they married shortly after his arrival. His first day in the U.S. he was hired as a Volkswagen mechanic for Queensboro Motors, in Queensboro, New York and immediately started his new position, preparing vehicles for new car dealers. His knowledge, experience and workmanship became well recognized and he was offered a service managerial position for a Volkswagen Dealer in Bridgeport, CT. In 1962 he successfully started his own independent Volkswagen repair business, Helmut’s Small Car Service. A few years later he expanded the business and became "Helmut's BMW and Subaru" new car franchise dealer, that was widely known and recognized. His business expanded into a large family entity and his success was built on his reputation of honesty, integrity and superior workmanship. After 40 years in business he and his wife decided to retire and set down new roots, on the intracoastal in Tequesta, Florida. Together they enjoyed vacationing and traveling back to their home land, Germany, boating & fishing with friends from the Pootatuck Yacht club, captaining his boat to the Bahamas and island hopping. He was humble, kind, thoughtful and a wonderful humanitarian who helped anyone who needed his guidance to achieve their life goals and was a great inspiration to everyone he knew. But his greatest joy and love was his family. His legacy will live on in the memories and stories shared with all who knew and loved him. He is predeceased by his parents, Heinrich & Josefine Zimmermann, sister Anna Lucas and brother Otmar Zimmermann of Hobbach Germany. He leaves behind his devoted and loving wife of 66 years, Sieglinde Zimmermann, daughter Katharina Tirita, son Helmut Robert (Maria) Zimmermann. Grandchildren: Heather (Steve) LaScola, Greg Tirita Jr. (Amanda), Kevin Tirita, Kimberly Tirita (Matthew). Great Grandchildren: Tyler, Casey, Van & Brenna LaScola, Harper, Liam & Zoie Trita and Eliana Hoffman. Brothers: Anton (Renate), Robert (Brigitte) Zimmermann and Sister in-law Krista Zimmermann, along with several nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Germany. A memorial and celebration of life will be held May 13, 2022, 1:00 p.m. at the Broadview Condominium Club House, 200 Intracoastal Place, Tequesta, FL.
