Hugh Whitman Sr.

Hugh Whitman Sr., age 93, of Beaufort, SC and Guilford, CT, beloved husband of 68 years of the late Mary Conant Whitman, died on Saturday, May 30, 2020.  Hugh was born in Needham, MA on April 1, 1927 to the late William Whitman III and Marjorie Warren Whitman.  Hugh was a veteran of the US Army, a graduate of Harvard College where he was a member of the pistol team, and a teacher at New Canaan Country School for over 40 years.  He was passionate for educating others throughout his life, long beyond his years at NCCS. He loved a round of golf with good friends on Lady’s Island, Beaufort, and throwing a hook into the ocean, trying to catch the big one.  He enjoyed trips on their boat, always discovering new things and meeting new people. Summers were family time.  From a six week cruise to the Bahamas aboard our 31' Bertram cruiser, to an RV summer visiting National parks on the way to California, and returning North of the Great Lakes.  Survivors include his children: Hugh Whitman Jr., Michael Whitman, Steven Whitman, and Elizabeth Whitman Memishian, nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.  Services will be held at a later date.
