Joan M. Goda, age 92, of Orange for 39 years and previously of Milford, beloved wife of the late William R. Goda, entered eternal rest with family by her side, on Tuesday May 23, 2023 at the Village at Mariner’s Point in East Haven.
She was born on September 8, 1930 in Bridgeport and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Kollmansperger) Finnell and her late step-father, Edward Barnes. Mrs. Goda worked as an assembler at BIC Corporation in Milford before her retirement. She was dedicated to volunteering and helped so many people. Joan was a member of the Lions Club in Orange for many years and served Thanksgiving Dinners at the High Plains Community Center through the Club. She volunteered at the Publishing Center at the Racebrook School in Orange and helped children with reading after school. She was a longtime parishioner of St Ann Church in Milford and was a a member of the 50+ Club and participated in their talent shows. When she moved to Orange, she was actively involved in Holy Infant Church and helped them count money. She was a breast cancer survivor and helped put baskets together for Yale New Haven Hospital for their cancer patients and participated in Relay for Life. She also volunteered for the American Cancer Society and helped with their mailings. Joan loved to play cards every Friday night and in her monthly card club with her groups of ladies. She also loved to play Bingo at the Village where she resided. She loved Yoga and bus trips with the Orange Senior Center. Joan was always willing to help others, putting them first.

She will be truly missed by her dear friends and loving family.
Mrs. Goda is survived by her devoted daughters and son, Carol Greenslade (Jack) of Southington and Beverly Hurteau (Ray) of Orange, and Michael E. Goda (Marcia) of PA, five loving grandchildren, Raymond Hurteau (Jaymie), Kathryn Hurteau (Sean Fawcett), Michelle Hurteau Tripp (Scott), Caitlin Shilati (Jay), and David Greenslade (Casey), six beautiful great grandchildren, Raymond, Claire, Olivia, Ryan, Carter, and Makenna, her nephew John Finnell II, and her dearest friend Pat Damon. Her brother, John Finnell predeceased her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at Holy Infant Church, 450 Racebrook Road, Orange with interment to follow at St. John Cemetery Stratford. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, May 30th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at THE GREGORY F. DOYLE FUNERAL HOME, 291 BRIDGEPORT AVENUE, MILFORD.
