Margaret Olsen Obituary

Margaret Ann Olsen, 91, entered into eternal rest at home on Saturday, March 2, 2024 surrounded by family.
Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on July 25, 1932.
In 1956, she married Sergeant Richard Charles Olsen, Senior of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Margaret and Richard
raised their family in Ansonia, Connecticut until 1970 when they moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she
lived until her husband, Richard, preceded her in death in 2000. She then relocated to Port Saint Lucie, Florida
to be closer to family. In 2021, she moved to Fleming Island with her youngest daughter and youngest
granddaughter to enjoy spending time with two of her great granddaughters. In the last year of her life, her
youngest granddaughter, Holly, took care of her daily medical and wellness regime for which the family is
grateful.
Her hobbies and interests were her family, needlework, and gardening. She enjoyed attending her youngest
granddaughters’ softball and cheerleading events as well as their dance recitals. She was often referred to as
the classroom grandma alongside their mother when she was the classroom mom as they always leaned in
and volunteered in the girls’ educational events together. Later in her life, she then attended her great-
granddaughters’ softball games and dance recitals. She will continue to be with us at these events…a seat will
be saved in her honor in the stands and in orchestra center…exactly where she liked to sit, with her sweater
laid gently over her seat, so she can continue to cheer on her next generation.
Margaret is survived by her children, William (Norma Jean) Schwaller, Barbara Hammond, Gary (Rose)
Schwaller, Charlene Nelson, Richard (Marta) Olsen II, and Charles (Susan) Olsen; her grandchildren, Rene
Scherf, Jessica (Patrick) Thompson, Christina Kelly, and Holly Glorioso; her great-grandchilden, Alexandria
(Ryan) Murray, Zachary Marshall, Henry Scherf, Sophie Grace Glorioso, and Abigail Cundall; her great-great-
grandchild, Oliver Murray; her sister, Barbara Fry; and many nieces, and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sergeant Richard Charles Olsen, Senior; sons-in-law, James
Hammond and Harvey Nelson; grandson, Gary Schwaller II; grandson-in-law, Anthony Glorioso; sister, Marion
Bussolotti; brothers, George Payne, Arnold Payne, Howard Payne, Robert Payne, Raymond Payne, Charles
Payne, and Frank Gantek.

“Time for me to leave you, I won't say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, high up in the sky.
In the evening sunset, when all the world is through,
Just look for me and love me, and I'll be close to you.”
