Marion R. D’Alessandro, age 87, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Thomas J. D’Alessandro, passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at her home in Milford. She was born in Bridgeport, CT on August 1, 1933 to the late Genio and Laura Lazzara Cicero. Marion was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She graduated from Warren Harding High School in 1951 and married her husband Tom in 1953. They shared 44 wonderful years together.
When her children were older, Marion worked part-time, including 25 years at Stop & Shop in Stratford, CT where she formed lasting friendships. She never could contain her laughter when she recalled a few road trips with Peggy and Marilyn that challenged their collective sense of direction.
Through the years, Marion and her childhood friend Viola continued sharing stories from youth and beyond with telephone conversations many times lasting an hour.
Marion enjoyed gardening and taking care of her yard. Her flower garden brought her quite a few compliments from passersby through the years. She also had cooking and baking specialties. Her mouthwatering eggplant parmesan and tasty sour cream coffee cake were favorites for many. Her daughter always requested Marion’s pineapple cream cheese pie as her birthday dessert.
In her retirement, Marion volunteered for several years in The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp’s administrative office, assisting with fundraising mailings. She took pride in making sure the mailing labels she applied to envelopes were always straight.
Survivors include her children: Linda Cassidy and her husband Michael of Durham and Thomas D’Alessandro of Milford, sister-in-law, Mary D’Alessandro and several nieces and nephews. Marion is predeceased by her brother Robert Cicero and brothers-in-law, Albert D’Alessandro and John D’Alessandro.
Marion’s family would like to thank her hospice team (especially Fran, Aurea and Richard) for treating her with compassion and continually attempting to bring her comfort as she dealt with challenging chronic health issues. Her family would also like to thank her kind caregivers - Yves, Clivea, Rosie, Racquel, Suzie Q and Malyr.
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral mass on Monday, April 26th at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Ann Church (Saint Raphael Parish), 501 Naugatuck Avenue, Milford. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
Marion’s smile, laughter, love, kindness and thoughtfulness will be greatly missed and she will always be in the hearts of her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to Connecticut Food Bank, PO Box 0618, Bridgeport, CT 06601-0618 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
