Mary Jane (Settipane) Marquis

Mary Jane Marquis, 87,  of Orange, beloved wife of Maynard Marquis, Sr. for 61 years, died on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Bridgeport Hospital.  Mary Jane was born in Middletown to the late Joseph and Mary (Secuso) Settipane. 

She graduated Middletown High School and shared many fond memories of being a cheerleader there. She attended Hillyer College and worked at the Hartford Electric Company helping to support her parents and sending her brother to medical school.

After marrying the love of her life, Maynard, it became her passion to support her husband and family. She valued education. Her planning and support were essential in her husband receiving his graduate degree from Yale, her son graduating medical school and her daughter graduating college. After her children were grown, she obtained her Real Estate License.

She enjoyed caring and playing with her young grandchildren, providing fond memories of nurturing and fun. She enjoyed walking on the beach, listening to Straus Waltzes, and hunting bargains.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Maynard Marquis Jr., (Ursula) and daughter, Mary Jane Marquis, three grandchildren, Colby Collier and Nicole and Matthew Marquis, sisters, Carmelina O’Brien, Alvera Marino and Jeanette Laveglia and many nieces and nephews.  Mary Jane is predeceased by her brothers, Guy and Joseph Settipane. 

A private graveside service will be held at State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown.
