Niles Mackenzie Obituary

Niles Eugene Mackenze, age 71, of Milford, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, doing what he loved best; watching Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives while figuring out the recipes.

Niles was born in New York on April 8, 1951 to the late John and Grace Linden Mackenzie. Niles grew up in Lincoln Park, New Jersey, and graduated from Boonton High School in 1969. He was a proud US Navy Veteran, who received several service medals and commendations following his service during the Vietnam War. Niles continued to serve, through his advocacy work as Sr. Vice Commander of Chapter 15 of the Disabled American Veterans, and as a board member of the Veterans, Ceremony & Parade Commission of Milford CT.

Niles moved to Connecticut in 1995 where he met his wife and best friend Julie Mackenzie. In 2000, when they were married, he shared that he felt he had fulfilled his life’s purpose by becoming a stepfather. When asked how he wanted to be remembered, he had said “Think of me in a white captain's cap and blue blazer, sitting on the prow of a ship, sipping scotch and enjoying myself”. That is what we will do my friend.

Niles is predeceased by his sisters Pam Logue,  Joyce Mackenzie, and nephew Shannon Mandevile. Survivors include his loving wife, his children, Brian Weiss and his wife Erin of FL, Nicole Cocce and her husband Joshua of Milford, Sean Weiss and his wife Carrie of Lebanon, CT, sister, Mary Mackenzie of FL,  his greatest joys - four grandchildren, Eleanor and Vivienne Weiss and Guy and Nicolas Cocce, nephews, Niles J. Mackenzie and his wife Nicia of FL, Ryan Mandeville of CO, his best friend Dana Pace, and his beloved dog Bella.

A memorial will be held on Friday, February 3rd from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in THE GREGORY F. DOYLE FUNERAL HOME, 291 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford.  A Service with military honors will take place at 6:30 p.m.  Internment will be private through the United States Navy Burial at Sea Program.
