Peter "Richie" Lanier Obituary

Peter "Richie" Lanier, age 82, beloved husband of Harriette (Richardson) Lanier of Milford, passed away on April 21, 2021.

He was born on September 10, 1938 in Hartford and was the son of the late Peter and Anne (Dionne) Lanier. After graduating from Milford High School in 1956, Pete joined the U.S. Army Reserves. Pete volunteered to join the U.S. Army in 1959 where he graduated from Airborne Jump School. He proudly served during the Vietnam War with the 82nd, 101st and 173rd Airborne and was later attached to special forces. He received honorable discharge in 1966. When he completed his military obligations, Pete moved back home and became a test car driver at Raybestos as well as a longshoreman in Bridgeport. He later became a custodian at Foran High School in Milford where he proudly worked for over twenty-five years while also serving as lead maintenance at his beloved Saint Ann Church. Pete also loved the outdoors and achieved Eagle scout in 1952. He continued to teach and mentor in the Boy Scouts of America for 40 years. Pete also loved fishing, culminating in a trip of a lifetime to Alaska with his son. He enjoyed watching UConn basketball as well as NY Giants football games with his family. Affectionately known by many as "P2" he will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

In addition to his wife of 55 years, he leaves his four children, Michael (Melissa) Lanier, Joseph (Rebecca) Lanier, Matthew (Kim) Lanier and Sarah (Michael) Bennett and seven grandchildren, Justin Lanier, Peter and William Lanier, Jenna Lanier, Griffin, Evangeline and Autumn Bennett. He also leaves his sisters, Valerie Dionne-Lanier and Phyllis Sturtevant and many nieces and nephews. His brother, Kenneth Lanier predeceased him.
