Richard Augustine De Capua, age 88, of Milford, husband of the late Margaret Ann "Peggy"(Burbank) De Capua, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2022. Richard was born in New Haven on May 29, 1934 to the late Dominic and Margaret (Gentile) De Capua. He grew up in New Haven, first on Pierpont St., and later moved to the Annex where he played baseball and coached Little League. He graduated from Wilbur Cross High School, and then from the University of Bridgeport and Stonier Graduate School of Banking. His banking career spanned 50 years and he worked in CT, MA, and NY. He shared his knowledge for many years as an instructor for the American Institute of Banking. He was commissioned as U.S. Army 1st Lt. serving in the 102 Infantry Regiment 43rd ID, CT Army National Guard. He was always very civic minded and was part of the Milford Recharter Committee, Lions Club, and Red Bush Lane Association. He loved his faith and never stopped learning. He completed a 2 year and an advanced 4 year program in Biblical Studies through the Archdiocese of Hartford. He also completed the Parish Business Manager Program for the Archdiocese. He was a bereavement counselor for the Roman Catholic church, having begun programs in several churches including St. Mary’s (Precious Blood Parish), he sang in the choir, taught Bible classes and enjoyed theology discussions. He also had the opportunity to travel and enjoyed following Paul’s Footsteps throughout the Mediterranean visiting all the countries Paul had evangelized the Word of the Lord, and visiting the Holy Land. One of his most favorite past times was watching the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. Even into his 70’s he helped coach Little League and Shoreline Football League. He was also an avid chess player and a pilot of fixed wing aircraft.
Family was important to him and he will be missed. Survivors include his children, Margaret Ann "Meg" Povroznik (Stephen III) of Milford; Ellen Mary Kendall (Chris) of Social Circle, GA; and Dr. Sarah Elizabeth De Capua of Bristol; three grandchildren, 1st Lt. Stephen B. Povroznik IV (US Army); Rebecca R. Kendall and Christopher J. Kendall Jr.; and many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews
There are no calling hours and entombment will be private. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Mary Church (Precious Blood Parish) 70 Gulf Street, Milford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CSRRA (CT State Rifle and Revolver Association), Pro-Life Across America, and/or Hillsdale College.
