Richard Viebranz Obituary

Richard Vincent Viebranz, age 89, of Fairfield, passed away on April 23, 2021. Beloved husband of the late Anne M. (Hogan) Viebranz, Richard was laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in New Haven on April 30, 2021 with close family in observance.

Richard was born on April 15, 1932 in Bridgeport, CT to Arthur and Marion (DeFabritis) Viebranz, and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. On May 23, 1959, Richard married Anne, and together they had four children. Richard retired from Southern New England Telephone Company after 39 years of service. Backyard pool parties, coaching baseball, and year-round holiday gatherings made for a lifetime of fond memories. He was a life-long fan of all the local sports teams, and never missed a game. In recent years, Richard kept cheering on his teams, played ping pong and socialized with valued friends at the Fairfield Senior Center, and of course cherished the time he spent with his family.

Richard was predeceased by his loving wife, parents, and sisters Jean Viebranz Wasco and Joyce Viebranz Stites.

Richard is survived by his daughters Karen Viebranz Wilczewski, her husband Richard, and their daughters Hannah and Hattie of Old Lyme, CT, and Diane Viebranz Applegate, her husband, John, and their daughter Alexis of Littleton, CO; his sons Paul Viebranz Sr., his wife, Jane, and their son Paul Jr., and his wife, Michelle, and their daughter, Lorien, and daughters Katherine and Samantha, all of Shelton, CT, and Gregg Viebranz of Burlingame, CA; as well as cousin Sylvia Valloric of Charlottesville, VA, many nieces, nephews, and their families, and a host of lifelong friends, especially Robert Lucas of Fairfield, CT.

He will be dearly missed by all.
