Walter Alvin Joy Jr.

Walter Alvin Joy Jr. (Walt), age 84, of Florida and formerly of Milford, CT and Sandy Hook, CT beloved husband of Andrea K. Joy for 56 years, died in his sleep on Wednesday June 8, 2022.  Walter was born in Bridgeport, CT on March 1, 1938, to the late Walter and Mildred Joy.  He was a graduated from Milford High School in 1956. Walter was an accomplished baseball player; he played semi-pro baseball traveling the northeast and even got a tryout with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was a youth baseball, softball and basketball coach for a number of years. Walter was also a highly skilled builder learning almost everything from his Father. He built the family home Sandy Hook, CT where the Joy clan lived for over 30 years.  He loved working on his cars. Walter was the supervisor of the print department at AVCO Lycoming in Stratford, CT where he worked for almost 40 years. Walter retired in 1995 and in 2008 he and Andrea moved to Florida where they enjoyed the warm weather and loved playing pickle-ball, bocci and he played in a men’s softball league. He loved the beach and spending time with his family whenever possible.  He especially loved family cookouts and holiday get-togethers often challenging friends and family members to a friendly game of horseshoes. Walter’s other surviving family members include his children Andrea McGowan of Ansonia, Walter A. Joy III of Waterbury, Justine Williams of Milford, son-in-law Jeffrey Williams, eight grandchildren, Jesse (Kasey), Russel, Monica, Walter IV, Matthew, Danielle, Samuel and Hannah, and two great-grandchildren Brennan and Oliver.
Friends and family may call on Thursday, June 16th from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in THE GREGORY F. DOYLE FUNERAL HOME, 291 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford.  A Service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, June 17th at 10:30 a.m. followed by the interment in Saint Michael Cemetery, Stratford.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.  To leave an online condolence, please visit, www.gregoryfdoylefuneralhome.com
