William Scholl Obituary

William P. Scholl, of Milford, passed away in his home, on Monday January 18, 2021. He was born in New Haven on July 19, 1948 to the late William C and Phyllis Burdy Scholl.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Cheri Robertson Scholl and his faithful Boxer Montana.

Bill spent his early childhood years growing up in West Haven. His father’s job moved the family to Oakland, CA and later returned to CT where Bill spent the rest of his life in Milford.

He graduated from Jonathan Law HS in 1966. Bill proudly served in the Air Force as a Morse Intercept Operator stationed in Greece during the Vietnam Era. He received an AS in Accounting from HCC in 1971 and his BS in Business Administration from UConn in 1974. After graduation, he went to work for the State of CT Dept. of Transportation in External Audits. He then became Director of Tolls and Concessions, and when the Tolls closed, he returned to serve as Director of External Audits until he retired.

Taking after his father, he enjoyed collecting and repairing cuckoo clocks as well as clocks and watches of all types.  He was also a collector of antique cars including a 57 Chevy and his prized 1966 Convertible T-bird. The garage always had some type of Harley waiting to be ridden with the American Legion Riders. He loved to vacation here and abroad with friends and family. He and his wife, along with life time friends, Tom and Barb, took yearly road trips east to west and north to south following shorelines, rivers and historic routes and places across this country.

His favorite thing was an ice-cold beer while relating a funny story with his friends at the American Legion. He was honored to serve as the Commander of American Legion East Shore Post 196 on and off for many years. He was also a member of the Elks 1589 and Moose Lodge 289.

Bill was a NY Yankee and UConn Huskies fan.

After retiring, he became a career shopper on E-bay. He often tried to intercept the postal carrier around the corner to get his purchases so his wife wouldn't know what he’d bought.

His high-Octane life took its toll on him 12 years ago and he struggled with complications of PTLD for much of it until his death. A true fighter till the end he will be missed by all that knew him as "one funny Guy".

He is survived by his brothers, Warren P (Nancy)Scholl, formerly of Danielson and now of FL and Raymond C (Bonnie)Scholl of Oxford, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He joins his other Boxer Boys, Rocky, Brigadoon, Chance Harley and Dakota over the Rainbow Bridge.

Bill would tell you "Organ donors make better livers, Organ donation, is a gift for life". In lieu of flowers please make donations to The Connecticut Food Bank.
